I work in Consumer Protection and am sharing some information to help keep you safe.
Let me make something very clear: PUBLIC WI-FI HOTSPOTS ARE NOT SAFE!
When your surfing the internet with Free Wi-Fi at places like McDonalds or Starbucks – be careful!
It’s not safe like your Home Wi-Fi, which is protected with passwords and encryption.
Hackers target Free Wi-Fi Hotspots, and sometimes they can even see what you’re doing on your computer.
SO HERE’S SOME ADVICE:
1) When you’re on Public Wi-Fi, avoid visiting any of your online accounts that require Login Info & Passwords!
2) Never check the accounts for your bank, your credit card or other financial sites!
3) Never enter confidential information – like your Social Security Number!
4) Always use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) when on Public Wi-Fi for added protection!
(Here’s a link for recommendations for the best VPN Services: https://www.tomsguide.com/best-picks/best-vpn).
I hope this information is helpful. I’ll be posting more Consumer Advice soon.
