Jim Maisano Looks Forward To New Term As County Legislator
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — After winning re-election as Westchester County legislator for District 11 with 69-percent of the vote, Jim Maisano looks forward to continuing to work for New Rochelle and Pelham.
Maisano, a Republican and a lawyer based in New Rochelle, will be beginning his seventeenth year on the county Board of Legislators.
After winning what he called the most exhausting campaign of his life, he said one of his first priorities in his new term is to continue to make sure county government is open and user friendly to the Hispanic community.
“We tried to run a very inclusive, optimistic, bipartisan campaign,” he said, “We worked really hard on including the Hispanic community. Politicians never really reach out to Hispanic neighborhoods. I’m trying to open my office’s doors to their community.”
He also said he hopes to keep the county’s fiscal situation in order.
“We’ve had to work really hard over three budgets to get spending down and deliver essential services while holding the line on property taxes,” he said, “Astorino is proposing a new budget on Nov. 15. It will be another tough budget, but we’re getting right back to work.”
Maisano said Rob Astorino’s re-election shows Westchester County residents are willing to do anything for lower taxes.
“His victory shows the voters of Westchester are very independent. Both sides ran very aggressive campaigns, and in a Democratic county they re-elected Rob and crossed party lines,” he said.
He added, “People in this county are saying very loudly that we can’t afford more property taxes. He told people they need to live within their means. Voters really responded to that. He wants to run a fiscally responsible county government and that’s why he won.”
Maisano will be spending the week relaxing by watching football and spending time with his wife and 12-year-old son.
